Periyar (river)

Periyar (meaning: big river) is a river that flows in the states of Tamil Nadu andKerala, India. It is one of the few perennial rivers in the region and provides drinking water for several major towns.[5] The river is mostly located in Kerala and generates a significant proportion of that state's electrical power via theIdukki Dam.[6] Due to these reasons, the river has been named the ‘Lifeline of Kerala’.[7] It is the longest river and the river with the largest discharge potential in Kerala.[8][9]

Bharathappuzha

Bharathappuzha ("River of Bhārata"), also known as the River Nila, is a river inIndia in the state of Kerala. With a length of 209 km, it is the second-longest river in Kerala, after the Periyar River. The word "Nila" indicates the culture more than just a river. Nila has groomed the culture and life of south Malabar part of Kerala. We see the name "Peraar" indicating the same river in ancient scripts and documents.

Pamba River

The Pamba River (also called Pampa river) is the third longest river in the South Indian state of Kerala after Periyar and Bharathappuzha and the longest river in the erstwhile princely state of TravancoreSabarimala temple dedicated to Lord Ayyappa is located on the banks of the river Pamba.
The Pamba is considered as the Dakshina Ganga (Southern Ganges) due to its association with Kerala's Largest Pilgrim Centre - Sabarimala.
The River Pamba enriches the lands of Pathanamthitta District and the Kuttanand area of Alappuzha District

Chaliyar

Chaliyar is the fourth longest river in Kerala at 169 km in length. The Chaliyar is also known as Chulika River or Beypore River as it nears the sea. NilamburEdavannaAreekodeKizhuparambaCheruvadiMavoor,PeruvayalFeroke and Beypore are some of the towns/villages situated along the banks of Chaliyar.

Chalakudy River

Chalakudy River or Chalakudy Puzha is the fourth longest river in Kerala, India. The river flows through Palakkad districtThrissur District and Ernakulam District of Kerala. The total drainage area of the river is 1704 km². out of this 1404 km² lies inKerala and the rest 300 km² in Tamil Nadu. The length of the river is 145.5 km. Though Chalakudy river in strict geological sense is a tributary of the Periyar river, for all practical purposes it is treated as a separate river by Government and other agencies.[1]

Kadalundi River

Kadalundi River (Kadalundipuzha) is one of the four most important rivers flowing through Malappuram district in the Indian state of Kerala. The other three are theChaliyar, the Bharathappuzha and the Tirur River.[1]
This rain-fed river is 110 kilometres (68 mi) long and is one of the most important rivers in the district.[2] It is formed by the confluence of the Olipuzha River and the Veliyar River.
The Kadalundi originates from the Western Ghats at the western border of the Silent Valley and flows through the district of Malappuram. It has two main tributaries namely Olipuzha and Veliyar. The Kadalundi River drains an area of 1274 km² and has a length of 120 km.[3]
The Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary spreads over a cluster of islands where the Kadalundipuzha River flows into the Arabian Sea. There are over a hundred varieties of native birds and around 60 varieties of migratory birds that come here in large numbers annually.[4]

Achankovil

The Achankovil Aar is a river in KeralaIndia, formed towards the southern tip of the peninsula from the streams of the Rishimala RiverPasukidamettu River, and theRamakkalteri River. This river enriches the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala state. It joins with the Pamba River at Veeyapuram, in the Alappuzha district of Kerala in South India.Achankovil is also the name of the forest area, which is the catchment area for this river, and of a small town situated in the Achenkovil forest area. The Achankovil village is not easily accessible; however, it can be reached through forest routes.

Kallada River

The Kallada River is one of two major rivers that flow through the Kollam District of Kerala,India. This River is formed by three Rivers, viz., KulathupuzhaChendurni and Kalthuruthywhich join near Parappar in Thenmala by the side of the Trivandrm-Shencottah road. It travels for 121 km, flowing through PunalurPathanapuramKunnathur and Kallada before ending at Ashtamudi Lake. The Palaruvi Falls also feeds Kallada river. The Chalikkari Aar also joins Kallada a little downstream. These two rivers flows westward and falls into the Ashtamudi Lake.

Muvattupuzha

Muvattupuzha (Malayalamമുവാറ്റുപുഴ) is a municipality in Ernakulam district in theIndian state of Kerala. It is situated in the eastern side of Ernakulam district. It is a junction of three districts namely Ernakulam, Kottayam and Idukki. The town is bordered by Kottayam district on southern side and Idukki district on eastern side approximately 20 km from the town. Muvattupuzha is situated 43 km (27 mi)[1]northeast of Ernakulam city on NH 49 (Kochi - Dhanushkodi National Highway) and lies on the popular Kochi-Munnar hill station tourist route.

കാക്കത്തമ്പുരാൻ


തെക്കേ ഏഷ്യയിൽ അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാന്റെ കിഴക്കൻ മലനിരകൾ മുതൽ തെക്ക് കിഴക്ക് ചൈനഇന്തോനേഷ്യഎന്നിവടങ്ങളിൽ ഈ പക്ഷികളെ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇതിന്റെ പ്രജനനം പ്രധാനമായും ഹിമാലയൻ വനനിരകളിലാണ്. കൂടാതെ ഇത് കാലാവസ്ഥ വ്യതിയായനമനുസരിച്ച് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ തെക്ക് ഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്കും,ശ്രീലങ്കയിലേക്കും ദേശാടനം നടത്താറുണ്ട്.






ഇളംപച്ച പൊടിക്കുരുവി

ഇറാൻപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ സൈബീരിയകാശ്മീർ മുതലായ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും ഈ പക്ഷികൾ സാധാരണ കേരളത്തിലോട്ടും തിരിച്ചും ദേശാടനം നടത്തുന്നു. ഒക്ടോബർ തുടക്കം മുതൽക്കെ ഈ പക്ഷികളെ കേരളത്തിൽ കാണാം. ഏപ്രിൽ പകുതിയാകുമ്പോൾ മടങ്ങിപോയിരിക്കും. ഈ പക്ഷികൾ കേരളത്തിൽ കൂടുകെട്ടാറില്ല. പൊള്ളയായ മരത്തടിക്കുള്ളീൽ എട്ടുകാലിവലപോലുള്ള ചെറിയ വസ്തുക്കൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് 4 സെന്റിമീറ്ററിൽ താഴെ വ്യാസമുള്ള ഗോളാകൃതിയുള്ള കൂടുകൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നു.





ആര്‍ട്ടിക് റ്റേണ്‍

ചിത്രത്തില്‍ കാണുന്ന കക്ഷികള്‍ക്ക് (സോറി പക്ഷികള്‍ക്ക്) 'ആര്‍ട്ടിക് റ്റേണ്‍' എന്നാണ് പേര്. ഇവരുടെ പ്രധാന വിനോദം ഒരു ധ്രുവത്തില്‍നിന്ന് ധ്രുവത്തിലേക്ക് ദേശാടനം നടത്തുകയെന്നതാണ്. ചില്ലറ ദൂരമല്ല അങ്ങനെ താണ്ടുന്നത്, 70,000 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍!
